Swimming Hole Tour
Based out of Tims Ford State Park
- Friday, August 2 at noon through Sunday, August 4 at noon
- $250 per person
- Package price includes meals, all interpretive programming, taxes, gratuities, and transportation to various destinations. Price does not include lodging.
Join State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath, Assistant Naturalist Holly Taylor and Ranger Cara Alexander on a three-day exploration of some of the most beautiful natural swimming holes and waterfalls in our state parks. The tour is a hiking and swimming adventure featuring multiple spectacular pools. Randy and Holly will explain and interpret the natural features along the way making the trip educational and fun. Participants should be a confident swimmer and adept at hiking over rugged terrain.
Day 1: Friday, August 2
** A sturdy walking stick is recommended for the various hiking trails throughout the three days. For your convenience, you can find walking sticks available for purchase in the Tims Ford park office.
12:00 PM: Meet State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath, Assistant Naturalist Holly Taylor and Ranger Cara Alexander along with your fellow tour members in the park office. Depart for a trip to Greeter Falls and the Blue Hole in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area. We will return to Tims Ford by 6 PM.
6:00-7:00 PM: Check into your Tims Ford State Park cabin if you’ve chosen to stay with us.
7:00 PM: Dinner as a group at the park office provided by the Governor’s Table Restaurant at Henry Horton State Park followed by an informal picture show of Tennessee Waterfalls and swimming holes by State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.
Day 2: Saturday, August 3
7:00-8:00 AM: Meet at the park office where breakfast will be provided for the group.
8:00 AM: Depart for an all-day trip to the Fiery Gizzard and Foster Falls at the South Cumberland State Park. A total of 4 swimming holes will be visited, each more spectacular than the last. A bag lunch will be provided for the trip. We will return to Tims Ford by 5 PM.
6:00 PM: Meet for group dinner back at the park office.
Day 3: Sunday, August 4
8:00-9:00 AM: Meet for breakfast at the park office and please be sure to check out of your cabin before the excursion if you have chosen to stay with us.
9:00 AM: Depart for Rutledge Falls and swimming hole near Tullahoma. The tour will end by noon.
Participants should be able to walk over rugged terrain for short distances and climb some steep grades. A backpack, water bottle, and walking stick or pole are highly recommended. Good hiking boots are needed and outdoor appropriate attire. Swimming attire is recommended. All times are Central time.
About Your Guides
State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath has more than 34 years of experience with Tennessee State Parks. Randy has served as a Ranger Naturalist at South Cumberland and Radnor Lake State Parks. He was appointed State Naturalist for Tennessee State Parks in 2007. A graduate of UT-Martin and former National Park Service Interpretive Specialist, Randy is one of the most sought after interpretive specialists in the southeastern United States.
Holly Taylor got her start with Tennessee State Parks as a Seasonal Interpretive Ranger in 2006, working six years at Edgar Evins State Park before working as a wildlife presenter for the Natural History Education Company of the Mid-South. She took time off to stay at home with her son before returning to TN State Parks as the assistant to State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath in 2018. She graduated from TTU in 2009 with a B.S. in Conservation Biology and also serves as the chapter coordinator for the Cumberland Mountain Chapter of the Tennessee Naturalist Program.
