Wildflower & Waterfall Tour March 2018  **SOLD OUT**

Please join Tennessee State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath and Ranger Cara Alexander for this spring hiking tour of ephemeral wildflowers and waterfalls and two night stay at Fall Creek Falls State Park. 

  • Monday, March 19 through Wednesday, March 21, 2018
  • $299 per person based on double occupancy,  $399 single occupancy. All taxes and gratuities included.

Day 1: Monday, March 19

** A sturdy walking stick is recommended for the various hiking throughout the three days. For your convenience, you can find walking sticks available for purchase in the Fall Creek Falls gift shop located in the Inn lobby.

12:00 PM: Meet Randy and Cara at the inn lobby, where they will be waiting to welcome the group and guide you to the tour meeting room. The front desk staff will also be available to answer questions, give directions, and check in the guests.

1:00 PM: Depart for tour of the Wheeler Farm Loop for waterfalls, wildflowers, and a natural arch. This is a two mile moderate hike over rugged terrain.

6:00 PM: Group will have dinner in the tour meeting room from the restaurant buffet. After dinner the State Naturalist will present a program on wildflowers and detail the next day’s tour.

Day 2: Tuesday, March 20

7:00 AM to 8:00 AM: Meet the group for breakfast in the restaurant.

8:00 AM: The all day tour will depart for Old Stone Fort State Park, Rutledge Falls, and Short Springs State Natural Area. The walks will total four miles and will have some rugged terrain but most will be easy trails. We will enjoy a picnic lunch at Old Stone Fort and will arrive back at the park by 5:00 PM.

6:00 PM: Group dinner from the restaurant enjoyed in the tour meeting room.   

Day 3: Wednesday, March 21

7:30 AM to 8:30 AM: Meet for group breakfast and check out of your room.  

8:30 AM: Depart for walk on Downstream Trail and view Twin Falls at Rock Island State Park. This is a two mile hike over moderate rugged terrain. Tour will conclude by noon.

About Your Guides

State Naturalist Randy Hedgepath has more than 34 years of experience with Tennessee State Parks. Randy has served as a Ranger Naturalist at South Cumberland and Radnor Lake State Parks. He was appointed State Naturalist for Tennessee State Parks in 2007. A graduate of UT-Martin and former National Park Service Interpretive Specialist, Randy is one of the most sought after interpretive specialists in the southeastern United States.

Park Ranger Cara Alexander graduated from U.T. Knoxville with a B.S. in Forestry and a minor in Wildlife and Fisheries Science. She began her career with Tennessee State Parks as the Seasonal Interpretive Ranger at David Crockett Birthplace and Fall Creek Falls State Parks. As a full time Ranger since 2011, Cara has worked at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park in Nashville and at Fall Creek Falls State Park. Her interests include hiking, birding, and photography.
