3 places to make an impact on TN Promise Saturday

Are you a high school senior in Tennessee looking for TN Promise service hours? As the August 1 community service deadline approaches, your Tennessee State Parks have planned activities this weekend to help you get outdoors and volunteer. There's still time to a trip to a park. Here are a few great places you can put your hands to work to make your parks beautiful and prepare for your college journey:

1. Johnsonville State Historic Park / Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park

Located on opposite sides of the Tennessee River, these parks are convenient for high school seniors living near Camden and Waverly. The activities at both parks begin at 9am. Nathan Bedford Forrest has planned landscaping, painting, and maintenance projects for volunteers, while Johnsonville has several different landscaping and brush clearing projects in the works.

2. Sgt Alvin C. York State Historic Park

Students who volunteer here will take part in one of the most ambitious projects currently underway in our parks. This park is in the process of re-creating WWI trenches to help visitors experience and connect with the Great War and its most famous hero, Sgt. Alvin C. York. The park has already completed a portion of the trenches, and hopes to complete more with the help of TN Promise volunteers at 9am on Saturday, July 23. Lend your hand to bringing the past to life. 3. Rocky Fork State Park

Rocky Fork is one of the newest, and most rugged, Tennessee State Parks. The park contains more than 2,000 acres of scenic wilderness and shares a border with Cherokee National Forest and the Appalachian Trail. Volunteers at this park will have the chance to build and improve trails. This is a great opportunity for students living near the North Carolina / Tennessee border. The project starts at 2pm on Saturday, July 23, so it's also great for those who like to sleep in on Saturday mornings.

Don't see a park in your area?
