As we enter the holiday season, it’s time to start thinking about what gifts to give. In recent years, the giving of ‘experiences’ has become more popular. We have some fantastic experiences to give those special people in your lives. From rock climbing to renting a pontoon boat – we have an adventure experience for everyone! Pickwick Landing State Park and Lodge

Did you know that the Lodge at Pickwick Landing has an indoor swimming pool for lodge and cabin guests?! If you are looking for a getaway during the colder months, this is the perfect getaway to have a unique experience! Pickwick Landing is the only site throughout Tennessee State Park’s system that has an indoor swimming pool. And of course, if you book a stay in our lodge or cabins during the warmer months, you will have access to both the indoor and outdoor pools.

To continue with the water experiences, Pickwick Lake is the main attraction at Pickwick Landing. The marina offers kayak, canoe, and pontoon boat rentals year-round! Take a pontoon out for the day and experience some of the best bass fishing in the state of Tennessee! Pickwick Lake is a favorite fishing spot for both local and national tournaments.  

Sunsets on Pickwick Lake are not to be missed! The restaurant and lounge patio is a great spot to relax, grab some drinks, and watch the sun go down after a day full of water adventures.

If water adventures aren’t your thing, the Pickwick Landing State Park Golf Course might be more your style. The course was opened in May 1973 and is a favorite of the locals as well as destination golfers. Featuring Champion Bermuda greens and 419 Bermuda fairways, this course is almost always in championship condition and playable year-round, which makes it a great golf package destination. The course also has a driving range, practice green, snack bar, and club rentals.

Montgomery Bell State Park and Lodge 

Have you ever wanted to catch some of the beautiful views that Montgomery Bell State Park has to offer, but from the water? You can rent kayaks, canoes, pedal boats, and flat bottom fishing boats for use on Lake Acorn! Each provide a different adventure, but the best views! If you want to bring your own boat motorless boat, private boats are also allowed on Lake Acorn.

If you are looking for a land activity, check out Montgomery Bell Golf Course! With gently rolling hills and beautiful hardwoods throughout, the Montgomery Bell Golf Course is one of the hidden gems of Tennessee. Featuring Champion Bermuda greens and 419 Bermuda fairways, this is a wonderful experience for golfers year-round. The property also features an abundance of wildlife such as deer, geese, and wild turkey. The clubhouse features a spacious veranda for a casual lunch. On-site amenities include a driving range, practice green, pull carts, and snack bar.  

Montgomery Bell offers many hiking trails for those who want to enjoy the outdoors without swinging a club! With trails ranging from just .2 miles to a 10.4-mile overnight trail, there is a distance for everyone. Montgomery Bell also has over 23 miles of mountain biking trails.

Fall Creek Falls State Park and Lodge 

When you think of Fall Creek Falls State Park, we’re sure the stunning views of Fall Creek Falls are what come to mind. Did you know that Fall Creek Falls State Park has over 56 miles of hiking trails? These include two long-distance overnight trails for the more adventuresome and 11 day-use trails designed to accommodate leisure walking and easy hiking or exploring the parks' geological features and forest life typical of the Cumberland Plateau. These trails also lead to the three waterfalls at the park – Fall Creek Falls, Cane Creek Falls, and Piney Creek Falls. 

If you have been looking for a new place to mountain bike, this it is! Don’t have a bike? No worries – the Canopy Challenge Course offers first-come, first-served bike rentals from their location near the Fall Creek Falls State Park Office and pool. Fall Creek Falls State Park has 24 miles of biking trails split up into three moderate-difficulty trails – The Upper Loop Trail, Piney Mountain Bike Trail, and Chinquapin Ridge Mountain Bike Trail. 

Fall Creek Falls also offers some great rock climbing! Copperhead Rock is a popular destination for top roping and rappelling. There are routes for beginners and routes for more advanced climbers who would like to test their abilities. Copperhead Rock is located near the Fall Creek Falls Overlook and can be accessed via the Copperhead Rock Climbing Area. There are also climbing and rappelling opportunities available at Buzzards Roost. This very exposed area has multiple routes to challenge visitors of all skill levels.  

All rock climbing requires a permit, so make sure to plan ahead!

The Lodge features 85 guest rooms overlooking Fall Creek Falls Lake. The unique guest rooms come in a variety of different sizes and layouts, ensuring the overnight arrangements are as spectacular as the surrounding park.

Paris Landing State Park and Lodge

Maybe you are looking for a more relaxation focused adventure? The new 91-room Lodge at Paris Landing State Park is the place for you! The Lodge at Paris Landing provides hotel resort-style vacation rentals on Kentucky Lake near Land Between the Lakes. It includes modern room design, a full-service restaurant, bar, and lounge overlooking scenic lakes and natural beauty. The lodge also features two large, outdoor fire pits that are sure to keep you warm while watching the sun set over the lake.

During the day, make sure to check out Paris Landing State Park’s hiking trails! The three trails range from .6 to 3.0 miles, including a paved, ADA-accessible trail. And while you’re hiking, make sure to look up for birding opportunities – wintering bald eagles are a common sight here! 

If you want to adventure out onto the water of Kentucky Lake, Paris Landing State Park features a full-service marina with annual and transient slips and a four-lane public boat launch ramp.  The ramp will accommodate wave runners and boats up to 72 feet. Shuttle service is available from the marina to the lodge and cabins for overnight guests. Personal small boats may be carried through the park and launched from the shoreline for use in small coves. Kentucky Lake also provides excellent opportunities for sailing. Boats are available for rent at nearby marinas. Information about local guides can be obtained at the park office and marina.
