Reelfoot Lake State Park is home to an abundance of outdoor activities for modern day nature enthusiasts. The Reelfoot Lake area was created by a violent series of earthquakes in 1811-1812 resulting in a river ecosystem that transformed into a lake habitat. The earthquakes caused the Mississippi River to reverse its flow for a short period of time creating Reelfoot Lake.
