Cordell Hull Birthplace hosts Civil War Cannon Firing Re-enactment

May 17 – Jan 18

History comes alive with the re-enactment of the first military action of the Civil War in Tennessee, which happened in the small, nearby community of Travisville. The cannon firing re-enactment starts at 2 p.m. CT and admission is $5 per person over the age of ten. For more information call 931-864-3247.

Cordell Hull Birthplace hosts National Trails Day Hike

To celebrate National Trails Day we will be hiking the Bunkum Cave Trail. There will be two stops along the way, first at the observation deck which Overlooks Bunkum Cave and Frog Cave and then at the head of Bunkum Cave where you will learn some brief history about the uses of the cave and its past and present inhabitants. This hike is rated at level 2, so we recommend you wear sturdy shoes and bring something to drink. Those wishing to attend will need to meet at the Bunkum Cave Trail head at 9 a.m. CT. Trail length is 2.25 miles round trip. For more information call 931-864-3247.

Cordell Hull Birthplace hosts Pearl Harbor Remembrance

Join park staff as we commemorate Pearl Harbor Day, the day that officially launched the United States’ entry into WW II. We will observe the occasion with a display of highlights of the infamous Pearl Harbor attack as well as a showcase on Secretary of State Hull’s Nobel Peace Prize, which he received in 1945 for his role in creating the United Nations. Join park staff as we celebrate the holidays the way they were enjoyed in the late nineteenth century, the time period in which former Secretary of State Cordell Hull lived in this rural area on the edge of the Cumberland Plateau.
