Welcome to Warriors’ Path State Park! We hope you will enjoy your visit! While you are with us, we invite you to take advantage of the rich natural beauty and wealth of opportunities for enjoyable recreation here at the park.

MONDAY, JULY 4 ✰✰✰ Happy Birthday USA ✰✰✰

TUESDAY, JULY 5


3:30 PM AFTERNOON CANOE FLOAT
A quiet canoe in the bright waters - there's no better way to enjoy the peace and excitement of life in the lake! See nature from a whole new perspective. NOTES: You must sign up in advance at the camp store. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and anyone under 18 must have an adult to sign a release form. Meet at the Marina.

7:00 PM BIRDS OF PREY
Meet some real live feathered hunters. Come to the Open Air Chapel and see “whooo...” is waiting for you. If it is raining, meet at the main bath house.

9:00 PM DRAGONFLIES
These fascinating insects have some amazing life stories to tell. Come enjoy a slide-illustrated talk about these “bugs” that zip through the summer skies. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the pool entrance if it’s raining.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 6


9:30 AM DRAGONFLY WETLAND WALK
Wetlands are wet, and full of life! Come along for a soggy hike near Fall Creek, on the far side of the Devil’s Backbone. We might even spot a few dragonflies! Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool.

12 NOON BIKE RIDE AND STREAM STOMP
Come explore life in the muddy places. That cool creek water sure will feel good after a warm bike ride. Pedal on down to the camp store, and we'll ride down to the creek. Be sure to wear old clothes and shoes - we will get wet and muddy! Note that ALL riders MUST wear a bicycle helmet. Children 10 or under must be accompanied by an adult!

3:00 PM MAGNIFYING GLASS HIKE
Use your eyes and some handy little magnifiers to get a close look at nature's amazing details. Meet at the main bath house to begin a short discovery walk.

5:00 PM FLOWER MAKING
We love flowers, but we hate that they die so quickly! Join us at the main bathhouse to make your own flowers that will never wilt!

9:00 PM NIGHT WOODS
It’s a whole different world out there at night! Tonight is our chance to discover the peace and the excitement of forest life on the dark side of the day. Bring a dim flashlight to the main bath house, to begin our night hike.

THURSDAY, JULY 7


9:30 AM HIKE THE BONEYARD
Come explore a remote corner of Warriors’ Path, full of geologic discovery. This will be a challenging 2-3 mile hike, so be sure to wear comfortable clothes, good hiking shoes, and bring some drinking water. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool.

11:30 AM MUD MARBLES
Before there were toy stores, kids had to build their own fun.
Meet at the Open Air Chapel, and we’ll turn ordinary mud into great playthings. Later today, when our marbles are dry, we’ll try some marble games. In case of rain, meet at the main bath house.

12 NOON CLAY PLAY
Come join us for fun and games with the help of nature’s craziest soils. Be ready to get messy and muddy! Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it’s raining.

2:00 PM NATURE’S SKYSCRAPERS
Forests are like apartment houses! Come along on this forest hike, and we’ll find out more about who lives “upstairs.” Meet at the main bath house.

4:00 PM MUD MARBLE TOURNAMENT
Meet at the open air chapel to try out those marbles we made this morning. If you missed a chance to make your own, come anyway. We’ll have extras! (In case of rain, at the main bath house).

5:00 PM TAG
You’re it! You’re the one we need to make all these great tag games work. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for all kinds of tag games. If it is raining, meet at the main bath house.

7:00 PM SEED RACES
Wind, water, and animals carry seeds of new trees and plants all across the land. Our “wind” can help too! Meet at the Open Air Chapel to show off your “hot air” and plant some new life. Meet at the main bath house if it rains.

9:00 PM TENNESSEE WILDERNESS
Enjoy a slide-illustrated tour of Tennessee’s wild, scenic places and the special values they hold. After the slide show, well have a demonstration of how to read wildlife signs. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or pool entrance if it’s raining.

FRIDAY, JULY 8


8:00 AM BREAKFAST WITH THE BIRDS
Come wake up to our feathered neighbors. Meet at the main bath house to begin a stroll through bird country! (The first 12 people to come get free doughnut & juice!)

10:00 AM DEVIL’S BACKBONE HIKE
Come hike to the high places, and get some new views of our park land. Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the start of an invigorating hike.

12 NOON MICRO-PARKS
Here’s your chance to plan and share your own nature park. You might even get “paid” by your “customers”! Bring your best park managing skills to the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.

1:00 PM PLANKTON STUDIES
For us, the lake is a place to go boating or fishing. But for the micro-world of plankton, it’s a home. Come help us sample this incredible world of tiny lives floating in lake water. Meet at the main bath house, and we’ll stroll on down to the shore.

3:00 PM FOREST FLOOR EXPLORERS
Let’s get a “bug’s eye” view of our nearby woodlands. Come explore for the animals that are at home on the floor of the forest. Meet at the Open Air Chapel for a short hike.

5:00 PM WILDFLOWER WALK
Let’s discover the beauty and amazing life stories of our flowering neighbors. Drive to the camp store and we’ll carpool to the start of a flower-filled hike.

9:00 PM LONG-LOST SPECIES
A surprising number of animals and plants have faded away, and are now only part of Tennessee’s history. Come learn the bittersweet story of extinction in our region. Enjoy a slide-illustrated talk on some “ghosts from the past,” at the Open Air Chapel (pool entrance if it is raining).

SATURDAY, JULY 9


9:30 AM SINKING WATERS RIDGE HIKE
Explore succession - the changing face of nature - on the first loop of the Sinking Waters Trail. We’ll discover the woodlands changing all around us! Drive to the camp store, and we’ll carpool to the start of the trail.

12 NOON CANE POLE FISHING

All it takes is a pole, a line, a hook, and a little bit of time! Come enjoy some good-old cane pole fishing along the lake shore. Over 12 years old, be sure to bring your TN fishing license. Meet at the main bath house.

3:00 PM TURTLE TALK
Meet some real, live “shelled friends” and find out more about their amazing lives. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or main bath house if it is raining.

4:00 PM NATURE GUESS WHO?
Is it fuzzy? Does it fly? Does this sound like fun? Come join us for a game of “guess who,” nature style. Meet at the Open Air Chapel, or the main bath house if it is raining.

5:00 PM EARTHBALL GAMES
Let’s have a ball - a six foot tall ball!! Meet at the Open Air Chapel for some lively, cooperative games. If it rains, we’ll have some smaller ball games at the main bath house.

7:00 PM FIELD SWEEP
This green world at our feet is teeming with amazing life. Help us “sweep up” some field discoveries. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the main campground.

9:00 PM CAMPFIRE
What a perfect combination: A dark night, a crackling fire, and some local, traditional ghost tales. Meet at the campfire circle, east end of the main campground. If it is raining, we’ll have an indoor “campfire” at the pool entrance.

SUNDAY, JULY 10


9:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE
Enjoy a peaceful morning worship service at the Open Air Chapel, or at the pool entrance if it is raining. Sponsored by the Colonial Heights Baptist Church.

SPECIAL NOTE: Please remember that fireworks, firecrackers, etc. are not permitted in Tennessee State Parks. Thank you for helping to keep it a safe July 4th celebration! In case of medical emergencies, contact the Park Ranger on duty at 423-765-5534.
